for every time I have been asked over the last couple of days if we are closing down, I'd be able ... to close down, and retire.
We are having a Massive Stock Clearance Sale and not a Closing Down Sale. I think it is because we have slashed all prices in the shop during the sale by 50% (and not the usual retailers' trick of only cutting prices on the stuff they can't normally get rid of) that, understandably, many people see it as a sign that we are closing.
We are a fully independent operation and we are doing it firstly, because we can and secondly, to gauge how much of a market there is for our current range of products in this part of town (Micklegate). Another consideration is that we want to make sure our regular customers have a decent chance of benefiting from the sale and so it will continue throughout the whole of this week.
We are comfortable that our normal prices are very competitive (we do check with the competition) and so the Half-Price sale prices have left many visitors to the shop visibly shocked (in a good way) at what is on offer at below bargain-basement prices. Yes, we have to repeat many times a day - everything you see in the shop is half the price it says on the ticket. Enjoy!
